Check out my Social Spark Profile!

Published by BobO under PayPerPost Edit This

I joined SocialSpark back on in early March. I had seen all the little SocialSpark badges and widgets everywhere, so I decided to check it out. I’m already a member of all their other programs, such as PayPerPost and IZEA Ranks so I figured, what the heck! Which, by the way, this is a PayPerPost sponsored post!

What I found out has really surprised me and excited me at the same time. My blog has not yet been approved to be able to accept any offers because I haven’t been blogging long enough, but I am certainly hyped about it! I can’t wait to be approved so I can start earning some extra money over there.

However, in the meantime, one of the greatest things about Social Spark is that it is also a social site. I’m learning very quickly here. You get to meet lots of other bloggers like yourself. You make “friends” by sending and accepting friendship requests. One of the other great things is that if you like another person’s blog and their posts, you can give them a “thumbs up” or “props” as its called on the site.

Anyway, come over to the site and check out my profile: FrakkinBob

This is one of the other fun things about the site - setting up your profile. It gives you the opportunity to really let others know who you are and what your interests are. You can hook up with other bloggers based on your similar interests or similar blog types. So, while you’re out there, if you haven’t done so already, I highly encourage you to check it out thoroughly then sign up. If you’ve been blogging for at least 90 days you will most likely get your blog approved to accept all the offers. There is some serious cash that can be made over at SocialSpark

Frakkin’ Freaky Fridays!

Published by BobO under Funny Edit This

As promised - here’s this Friday’s Freaky story of the week!

Columbus Man Accused Of Spraying Woman’s Shoes With Water
Friday, May 30, 2008 10:34 AM

CINCINNATI — A woman told Cincinnati police that she heard a noise and then felt something cold on her feet. Police said a man crawled under a table at a University of Cincinnati library and used a syringe to spray saltwater onto the woman’s shoes.

Dwight Pannell, 43, of Columbus, was booked on charges of voyeurism, assault and criminal trespass, court records show.

Pannell was silent in court a court appearance on Thursday. His attorney argued that Pannell’s alleged actions didn’t warrant the charges against him.

The woman told officers that after she heard something coming from under her table and felt the sensation on her feet, she looked down and saw a man on his knee holding a syringe.

The judge set Pannell’s bond at $75,000.

And - Here’s the freaky picture of the week that I found over at HumanDescent. What the heck kind of animal is this?

We’re Getting Another Car this weekend!

Published by BobO under alcohol, kids Edit This

Okay - I would say that’s a bit misleading! LOL. We’re not getting a new car. We’re going over to Orlando this weekend and taking back my step-daughter’s car. She’s living over there with my step-son’s dad (that’s another blog post for another day) while she’s going to college. She’s a Freshman - going to be a Sophomore next year.

Let’s just say the rules weren’t exactly set for her when she moved over there. We bought her a car last year as a graduation gift so that she would have transportation to get to and from school and to get to and from work. Well - she’s gone “hog-wild” with this new found freedom of hers. Apparently, there are not too many rules there. However, if she plans on staying out for the night - she has been asked to at least call him to let him know where she will be.

Apparently, she did not come home last night. Neither he nor my wife were able to get hold of her on her cell phone today. She finally called him today at around 1:00pm. She went out to a bar last night and was drinking - did anyone else here know that even people under the drinking age of 21 can still get in to nightclubs? When the heck did that change? I always thought you had to be of drinking age to get into a club that serves alcohol?!?!

In any case, her “friends” who are 21 and older were giving her drinks. She’s only 19. Yes, she’s an adult, but, she’s still not old enough to drink legally and she was driving. Her story to the step-son’s father was that she tried calling him but kept getting a wrong number (even though his number is programmed in to the phone) or that her phone died and that someone else drove her car and her to someone else’s house and that she was too drunk to drive. Hmmm…why could he not drive her home?

Her story to her mom was that she only had a couple sips of other people’s drinks and that she would never get in to a car and drive even if she had one drop of alcohol….and her phone is broken.

Well - according to her “My Space” page that we decided to look up, she has it posted all over that page that she was hung over and got hammered at this nightclub last night. So - because of her irresponsibility - the step-son’s father has taken her computer away (that he bought her) and my wife and I are on our way this weekend to get the car. The car is bought and paid for and titled in my wife’s name and we are paying the insurance. Can you imagine what kind of lawsuit that would bring us if she ever caused an accident while she was drinking, or even worse, someone else who is not on our insurance was driving her car? Until she grows up learns responsibility - she can take the bus!

The main thing I wanted to get across here is that if other parents out there have adult children that are still under drinking age - beware - there are nightclubs out there that allow people under drinking age in to the clubs - they put wristbands on them to identify them to the bartenders that they are underage and should not be served. Well - that’s all fine and dandy - but there is no one out on the floors making sure that those who are old enough to buy the alcohol are not giving it to those who aren’t supposed to have it.

Mommy’s not on the ball!

Published by BobO under Ryan Edit This

One of the greatest things about having little kids is just how literal they are. For instance, just this past weekend my wife had created a VERY long “Honey-do” list for me considering it was a long weekend.

When we moved in to this house 6 years ago, we had 4 kids and 4 bedrooms. They obviously were not going to get the master bedroom..so that left 3 bedrooms between 4 kids. So, rather than shack them up together, I decided to convert our den in to another room. So, I had to put up walls and a door. Well, now that all the older kids are moved out, we no longer need to have that extra room - so - one of the things on the list was for me to tear down those walls.

If anyone has ever torn down plaster-board walls, you know what a mess that creates - dust everywhere! After I was done, I vacuumed as best I could. However, there was still a fine coat of dust all over the carpeting. I told my wife that I needed to steam clean the carpeting and told her I needed to run to the store to buy some steam-vac carpet cleaner. To which she replied she had already purchased some.

While Ryan was standing next to her, I commented “Wow, Mommy! You’re really on the ball today!” Ryan was very quick to point out “Mommy’s not on a ball.”

Well - I obviously had lots of fun with that - you know - the whole - sure she is…to which he continues to look for the ball, etc etc. Anyway - that is one of my favorite - among many other things, that I just really love about having little kids around. They remind us that there are always two meanings to the words we use!

It was Dress-up Day today!

Published by BobO under Kylie, Ryan Edit This

I guess while Daddy was at work today, it was Dress-up day back at the household! Mary took the first picture - these are some awfully cute kids! But, you know, I’m just their Daddy!

From what I understand, Kylie found her Pooh costume and wanted to wear it - so Jelly Belly Ryan just had to put on his Spiderman costume as well. Here’s both of them together in Kylie’s room.

I thought the first picture was so cute, I decided to see if I could get them back in their costumes so I get could some more pix when I got home. Ryan didn’t want to put his costume on again - he was too busy watching Spiderman! Here’s Kylie in her room.

Finally got a full-size picture of her. What a cutie!
Did I mention how much I really like having a digital camera again? We’ve been capturing some really great pictures lately! There are going to be many more where these came from. Stay tuned!

My Step-Son is getting married next month!

Published by BobO under Danny, Wedding Edit This

I’m not sure if I mentioned it in a previous post or not, but I have a 22 year old step-son who is currently in the Army and stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. He called us up last month to let us know that he was getting married!

Wow! He’s only 22! He can’t possibly be ready yet. He just met the girl only about 8 months ago. We barely know her. Actually, we got the phone call from him, AFTER we got the phone call from his father. His father called up Mary on a Friday evening to let her know that Danny was going to call her to let her know that he and his girlfriend were going to a Justice of the Peace the following Monday to get married!

Well - naturally - Mary flipped out! Within minutes of hanging up with Danny’s father, Danny called. Mary was already prepared! She already got in to the whole they are too young, they should wait, yada yada yada. Danny never did get to tell her they were going to a JOP on Monday. Well, Sunday evening, Danny calls to let her know that after a lot of discussion they set the date for June 14.

Everything has been a whirlwind since! We got to “meet” the future in-laws by telephone and e-mails. Apparently, everything is being done on the cheap! The wedding ceremony is being held at the base chapel. The “reception” was originally going to be held at The Golden Corral! When I heard that, I nearly fell out laughing so hard! Mary and Danny’s father were on the phone complaining to one another about EVERYTHING!. Danny’s grandmother used to work in a bakery so she was going to bake the wedding cake until she heard the “reception” was at the Golden Corral. Anyway, Danny’s dad started calling around to places and found a real reception hall. So - the grandmother is baking the wedding cake again!

We were told the wedding would be “casual.” Danny said that his bride will be wearing a “wedding dress,” he’s wearing a white suit, and his best man (who just happens to be his father) is wearing a white suit, and the grooms men (my two boys) are wearing canary yellow button down shirts with tan khakis! Oh! What a picture I have in my head of how this is going to go!

Next thing you know, we get an e-mail from the future mother-in-law. Apparently, one of the sisters designed the wedding announcements and invitations on the computer. Well, they sure looked good on the computer! Once we received them, they were printed up on regular yellow printer paper. I sure wish we had heard of 1st Class Wedding Invitations before we said “okay” to the one’s they made and printed up!

If we had known about 1st Class Wedding Invitations before we received that e-mail and subsequent invitation, we could have told them about the ZOOM feature that allows you to see their invitations in greater detail than what they provided us - and the fact this feature itself is pretty unique when it comes to wedding invitation websites. We would have been glad to pay for these for them. Based on their colors and the invitation we received from them, this is the one I would have recommended to them:

The next e-mail to come from the future mother-in-law was pictures of the “wedding dress” and the “dress” the Maid of Honor (which also happens to be her mother) would be wearing as well as pictures of the dresses the bridesmaids would be wearing! Oh lordy that sent Mary in to a panic. The so-called “wedding dress” as Danny put it is actually a formal Bridal Gown from David’s Bridal. The Maid of Honor is wearing a full-length gown and the bridesmaids are all wearing matching gowns! I thought this was just supposed to be casual? Mary had already gone out and purchased a casual, and very elegant looking, sun-dress.

Of course, Mary immediately got on the phone with Danny. His response to the question about the formal gowns and the fact that he said it was casual - “I don’t know about these things..here..talk to Nikki (the future daughter-in-law).” Mary talked to Nikki - which was of no help to her at all! Nikki’s take on the whole thing is that this has gotten out of control and that it was never meant to go down like this. She says that “everyone can come however they want, it’s no biggy.”

Oh what a calamity this is turning out to be so far! I can’t wait to see how this whole thing is going to turn out! I guess what really matters is that they learn on their own and that they can both be happy in love. I’ll post on this in June when we get back and let you know how things turned out!

Just had to post this!

Published by BobO under Children Edit This

About 12 years ago I received the following in an e-mail. In those 12 years I’ve had 5 different jobs with 5 different companies. I printed this up and put it in my office when I first received it. Regardless of what job I was in or where I was at, I carried this with me to the next job and posted it up on my wall. I was looking at this again today and thought this would be great to share with everyone in case you haven’t already seen it. It is titled:

A Child’s 10 Commandments to Parents - By Dr. Kevin Leman

1. My hands are small; please don’t expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball. My legs are short; please slow down so that I can keep up with you.

2. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have; please let me explore safely; don’t restrict me unnecessarily.

3. Housework will always be there. I’m only little for such a short time — please take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.

4. My feelings are tender; please be sensitive to my needs; don’t nag me all day long. (You wouldn’t want to be nagged for your inquisitiveness). Treat me as you would like to be treated.

5. I am a special gift from heaven. Please treasure me as God intended you to do, holding me accountable for my actions, giving me guidelines to live by, and disciplining me in a loving manner.

6. I need your encouragement, but not your praise, to grow. Please go easy on the criticism; remember you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me.

7. Please give me the freedom to make decisions concerning myself. Permit me to fail so that I can learn from my mistakes. Then someday I’ll be prepared to make the kind of decisions life requires of me.

8. Please don’t do things over for me. Somehow that makes me feel that my efforts didn’t quite measure up to your expectations. I know it’s hard, but please don’t try to compare me with my brother or my sister.

9. Please don’t be afraid to leave for a weekend. Kids need vacations from parents, just as parents need vacations from kids.

10. Please take me to church regularly, setting a good example for me to follow. I enjoy learning more about God.

Enjoy!
